Megan and Matt had their intimate wedding this past weekend in Yorktown, and it was absolutely beautiful! COVID-19 has thrown a wrench in so many plans, but it sure wasn’t going to stop Megan and Matt celebrating their day with their closest friends and family who were able to attend! They relocated to Matt’s parents’ house out in Yorktown, and they did an amazing job getting it ready for their big day!
One of my favorite things about weddings has always been the “busy-ness” of them. The hustle and bustle of friends and family setting up decorations, coordinating with vendors, and getting ready in time for the ceremony. All of the time and attention spent making everything, “just right,” or the care that the bride’s mom takes in the finishing touches of the bride’s veil. Seeing everyone come together with one goal of having a beautiful day for the bride and groom to celebrate their love for each other has always been so touching to me! Whether it’s an extravagant affair, or an intimate ceremony, that feeling is always present. The same care that goes into making sure that, “all,” of the many floral arrangements are up to par at a larger event, goes into making sure that there ARE florals at a more intimate affair. Why?
Because it’s important. That’s the one fleeting emotion tying everyone preparing together. The idea that all of it matters so much, if not just to show support and love for the bride and groom. Does it really matter if you have a cake at a wedding or not? Of course not! But the friends and family that come together to make it important, to make it matter… I find that so beautiful! Two people love each other with all of their hearts and are making it official, and that is so important to everyone in their lives! Megan and Matt love each other endlessly, and pandemic or not, their friends and family made sure that they had a beautiful wedding day to celebrate their love!
I couldn’t shake those thoughts as I watched the hustle and bustle of Megan and Matt’s family and friends all preparing for the day. The playful jokes from Megan and her bridesmaids as they all got ready, Carol (Matt’s mom!) ensuring that I had all of the details together that I needed to photograph, and the excited giggles from the flower girl at getting to wear her, “ballerina dress.” It was day full of love that I felt so blessed to attend! Megan’s mom, Donna, helped her slipped into her dress, and we all took a moment to be amazed before we snuck Megan out of the house without Matt seeing her.
We made the quick 5 minute drive over to the Yorktown Battlefield for photos, after figuring out all of the wedding-dress-in-a-car-ride logistics! Megan’s bridesmaids were the absolute BEST hype-people! The entire time we were taking photos, they were all laughing with and encouraging each other to bring out the most stunning smiles. They really helped make it such a good time! As if we weren’t laughing enough already, the sight of Matt being lead (blindfolded!) by his groomsmen out to the field for their first look was a showstopper for sure. Directing a beaming Megan and a blindfolded Matt through poses definitely takes the cake for the most entertaining pre-ceremony portraits I’ve gotten to take! Courtney and Matt, their Maid of Honor and Best man (yes, another Matt!) were the best at keeping the fun going! Megan and Matt’s bridal party was right by their side to cheer them on, and I’m just so happy for them that they have SUCH fun and supportive friends!
Once all of the bridal party shenanigans were over, it was time for everyone to take their places for the ceremony. The flower girl and ring bearer slowly made their way down the aisle, and finally, Matt got a glimpse of his bride. Matt couldn’t help but get teary eyed as Megan walked down the aisle with her father, and they all embraced in a quick hug before the ceremony began. Tears quickly gave way to laughter as their officiant joked about how Megan and Matt spend their time together. Whether it be playing Star Wars video games, or watching Matt play Star Wars video games; playing dungeons and dragons, or watching Matt play dungeons and dragons, they always cherish their time together. Before we knew it, it was time for them to share their vows and say, “I do.” Megan and Matt were now officially Mr. and Mrs. Romeo!
After the ceremony, Megan and Matt were met with a “drive by” wedding reception from some close friends who wanted to share their congrats! Soon it was time for their own reception to begin, and they started the evening off with their first dance. I know I say that I always cry during first dances, but I really just can’t help it! Watching Megan and Matt look so deeply into each other’s eyes during their dance, and the laughter they shared together, had me quickly wiping away tears. I’m just so happy for them that they found each other! If there was a dry eye in the house before, there definitely wasn’t after Megan shared her dance with her father, Eric. Matt started to dance with his his mom, Carol, and then quickly bust out into a planned surprise dance! Everyone went from heartfelt tears to gut bursting laughter, especially when Matt and Carol differed on exactly how long they had been practicing the dance. Matt’s father, Steve, and his Best Man, Matt, gave some wonderfully dungeons-and-dragons-laced toasts, and opened the night to the reception festivities.
I’m so thankful to have gotten to meet Megan and Matt’s friends and family, and to witness the love and care they have for them! Their day was so touching and sweet, and I’m just so happy that they are finally MARRIED! Congratulations again Mr. and Mrs. Romeo, and I hope you’ve been enjoying the first few days of your endless marriage 🙂
