HEY! I'M

Emily and Stephen | Richmond Capitol Engagement Session

With all of the craziness of Richmond weather, it was so nice to get a break from the rain this past weekend! The sun came out for a truly gorgeous day, and just in time for Emily and Stephen’s engagement session at the Richmond Capitol building. I’ve been so excited to finally take their engagement photos, and to get to know them a little better!

Emily and Stephen met at the Tobacco Company Club back in 2017, and quickly found that they had a lot in common! Filling their weekends with adventures, they love getting to try new recipes together, going to parks, concerts, festivals, and just about anything to get out and about. They even have a little on their bikes for their adorable pup Kiki! Stephen took Emily out on a hike at Humpback Rock to pop the question back in November. He even made the extra climb up to the mountain top for a special photo-op just for Emily! Talk about dedication!

We’ve been so excited to finally get their engagement photos done, and I knew that Emily had a few props that she wanted to bring along to showcase their pup Kiki. What I didn’t know is that Emily is quite the DIY expert! She handmade all of the gorgeous props, including the absolutely adorable, “My humans are tying the knot,” sign! I know full well that “pets” are 100% members of the family, so I love when couples include them in their engagement sessions. Kiki definitely takes the cake for one of the most calm pups I’ve met in a session! I could tell that Emily loves taking photos of Kiki, since she always seemed to know right where to look to find the camera. She’s a natural for sure!

Once we finished up at the capitol building, we headed down to the Potterfield Memorial Bridge and canal walk area. Emily chose a gorgeous navy floral dress, which actually happened to be the dress that she wore on her first date with Stephen! Their first date was even at the Potterfield Memorial Bridge! Years later, it helped to make some adorable engagement photos 🙂 I love just full circle stories like these! Do you remember what you wore on your first date with your special someone?

With the sun dipping behind the tree line, we had just enough time for one last outfit. Knowing there was a little bed of flowers just up the road, I HAD to get in a few twirl shots! I don’t know what it is about them that brings out the biggest smiles in couples, but they are just so much fun. I just love the way that Stephen looks at Emily, and the smile he brings out in her! I’m so glad we were able to get a few of those before the sun set for good.

This wonderful session was such a group effort, and I’m so glad with how their photos turned out!! I have to give a special thank you shout out to Emily’s wonderful parents, who hung out with Kiki and kept her company when she wasn’t taking photos 🙂

Congratulations again Stephen and Emily, and I can’t wait to see you again in May 2021!
